The SFPUC Wishes You a Healthy and Prosperous New Year

As we celebrate the 2021 Lunar New Year, the SFPUC wishes everyone a healthy and prosperous Year of the Ox.

2021 is the year of the Ox, starting from February 12, 2021 and lasting until January 31, 2022 based on the lunar calendar. If you were born in the following years: 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021, 2033, your zodiac sign is an Ox. An Ox year occurs every 12 years. The Ox occupies the second position on the Chinese zodiac. The 12 zodiac animals are, in order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Lucky colors are white, yellow, and green.

Some cultures give lucky red envelopes stuffed with new paper money to show their love and respect for each other. Families of many cultures get together to celebrate this important holiday, including those from China, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Laos, Singapore, and many other Asian countries. The SFPUC is proud and honored to serve its customers with such diverse cultural backgrounds.

Just like the Ox who is sociable, community oriented, and always willing to help when community members are in need, the SFPUC has many programs that bring benefits to our communities. The SFPUC has created an emergency bill relief program for customers who can’t afford to pay their bills during the pandemic. Instructions are available in English, Chinese, Spanish and Filipino. The website also includes information about grant programs to community gardens to the construction of a brand new community center.

The other traits of the Ox are diligence, dependability, strength and determination. Like the Ox, SFPUC staff continues to work hard to provide you with reliable, high-quality utility services 24/7.
