The SFPUC and the Southeast Community Facility are proud to announce the third annual Futures Fair that will take place the week of July 27.

This annual event provides young people with insight into careers with public utilities and professional development coaching to youth participating in summer activities through the SFPUC’s partner learning grants program. Historically being held at the Southeast Community Facility, this event focuses on providing youth from District 10 with equitable opportunities to explore careers at the SFPUC. Many of the participants are also from Bayview, home of the SFPUC’s wastewater treatment plant in the Southeast sector of the City.

At the Futures Fair, youth traditionally participate in career exploration panels with SFPUC personnel and professional development workshops from local community organizations. With the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will not be held as an in-person event. Instead, the circumstances have provided the SFPUC with an opportunity to redesign this event to be delivered completely online.

This year the SFPUC is prepared to provide youth with various engaging online activities throughout the week of July 27. The agency’s water and wastewater departments will provide pre-recorded activities that participants can guide themselves through. They will also have access to several professional development videos focused on working in a remote environment from LinkedIn via their learning platform. Finally, youth can participate in a series of live Q&A panels and one-on-one sessions with professionals in utilities through video conferencing. Because the event is online, it will also allow more youth to participate than in previous years.

This effort represents another example of the SFPUC and Southeast Community Facility’s tireless efforts to continue critical programming for community members even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
