Crystal Springs Road Closure for San Andreas Pipeline Replacement Prompts Detour for San Bruno Traffic

Replacing a large pipeline across a busy street is always a challenge. The contractor replacing vulnerable sections of the San Andreas Pipeline 2 project in San Bruno had originally planned to replace the portion under Crystal Springs Road while keeping one lane of traffic open at all times.

The closure will begin Monday, April 20 and continue through May 29, although the contractor hopes to be finished earlier.

With the nearby Junipero Serra County Park closed and traffic volume diminished due to people staying home for the shelter-in-place, it seemed like a good opportunity to tackle the job now.  In fact the contractor could even speed up the work by receiving permission to close the entire roadway to replace the pipeline. This enables crews to work more quickly and safely.  It does require a traffic detour however.

The closure will begin Monday, April 20 and continue through May 29, although the contractor hopes to be finished earlier. Closure will begin at 7 a.m. for preparation and actual construction will start at 8 a.m. Work will continue through 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Crystal Springs Road will be fully open to traffic in both directions on weekends and emergency vehicles will have thru access at all times.
