Murshida Chowdhury starts her day by making sure that her most urgent work gets done first.

Chowdhury, Utility Analyst in the SFPUC’s Power Enterprise, supports customer programs for energy efficiency and other distributed energy resource programs for Hetch Hetchy Power and CleanPowerSF customers. Her responsibilities also includes helping her team develop marketing and outreach to facilitate customer program operations and growth.

“Currently I’m supporting the team to manage the GoSolarSF incentive program and to develop and solve issues to implement the Peak Day Pricing program,” she said. Chowdhury also conducts research, evaluation, analyses and studies of renewable and distributed energy resources as well as corresponds with customers to provide them with the information regarding power programs.

For Chowdhury, celebrating Women’s History Month is important to increase awareness and to remember the contributions of ordinary and extraordinary women who contributed to progress the society. For her, it is an opportunity to celebrate all the advances women have made through history not just in America, but also across the world. “This month helps to implant the feeling men and women alike, to stand with each other, fight for equal rights for everyone around the world,” she shared. “Representation means unity and equality. Representation also means to standup for another to have the rights and obligation.”

Through her voluntary work, Chowdhury is able to provide support to women affected by domestic abuse and struggling with financial hardship to get vocational training. “This invaluable training supports the transition from abuse, to a safe and independent lifestyle, as well as they become strong contributors to our society,” she shared.

Chowdhury believes every qualified individual can participate in the SFPUC’s mission regardless of gender, ethnicity and race, which is creating the equality for the work environment. The phrase “the future is female” means a great deal to her. “The Future female is smart and strong rather than being perfect and beautiful,” she thoughtfully shared. “Future females can accomplish any challenges and there are no barriers that they cannot overcome.”

Chowdhury expanded that the “Future is Female” also means women is the role model for society. “We will reach gender equality through actions, awareness, education and opportunity. Women History Month is the platform for women and men to not only talk the talk but walk the walk. We all rally for justice, gender equality to create future female leaders,” she shared.
