This coming November 9 will not be an ordinary one. It will feature two highly dynamic community building events in the Bayview.

For the SFPUC, having positive effects on communities where it operates is critical. One key way to do that is through the SFPUC’s Social Impact Partnership Program (SIP), which invites private sector firm partners to give back the local communities in which they are performing work on behalf of the SFPUC. Bayview Business Day is an example of just such an event. The SFPUC’s firm partner Parsons is sponsoring this event through SFPUC’s SIP program. Bayview Business Day will feature shopping, fun, and community building on November 9 on Third Street from Evans Avenue to Jamestown Avenue.

Bayview Business Day is a day where the SFPUC shows some love for the communities in southeast San Francisco by supporting local small businesses in a neighborhood where the SFPUC operates. The event features dozens of local food, beverage, and craft vendors in the thriving Third Street business corridor nearest the Southeast Community Facility and Southeast Treatment Plant.

At the same time, the SFPUC and Southeast Community Facility will host its annual Health and Harvest Fair: Welcome to Wellkanda. This annual health fair is put on by the Southeast Community Facility, is open to everyone, and will feature everything from dancing to help understanding open enrollment for healthcare.

Health and Harvest Fair will take place on November 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature free health screenings, open enrollment information, community yoga and dancing, a kid’s zone with rock climbing wall, live music, free fresh produce, and more. The event will be located at the Alex L. Pitcher Jr. Community Room at the Southeast Community Facility (1800 Oakdale Avenue, San Francisco 94124).

The SECF was constructed in partnership with the Bayview-Hunters Point community to mitigate the environmental and social impacts of the Southeast Treatment Plant’s expansion in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The SECF is owned by the city and operated and maintained by the SFPUC for the benefit of the Bayview Hunters Point community. The SECF is part of our Community Benefits Program at the SFPUC.

Our theme for the annual Health and Harvest Fair this year is “Wellkanda,” highlighting both the importance of community health and of San Francisco’s newly designated African-American Arts & Culture District.
