Allbirds, the popular eco-friendly San Francisco-based footwear company, has joined CleanPowerSF, San Francisco’s community choice energy program, also commonly referred to as a community choice aggregation program (CCA).

CleanPowerSF launched in 2016 with a mission to provide SF residents and businesses with the choice of having their electricity supplied from clean, renewable sources at a competitive price. Over 110,000 customers are currently enrolled in the program, which is set to undergo its largest enrollment period in April. Following that rollout—the last major enrollment of the program—CleanPowerSF will serve a projected 360,000 customers. ​​​​

The SFPUC has been providing San Franciscans with 100% greenhouse gas-free hydroelectric energy for the past 100 years from the Hetch Hetchy Power System. CleanPowerSF is run by the same clean energy experts. Following the April enrollment, CleanPowerSF and Hetchy Hetchy Power will generate nearly 80% of the electricity demand in SF.

CleanPowerSF currently offers two choices for cleaner energy. The Green service program is at least 40% renewable, and the SuperGreen service is 100% renewable.

Founded in 2016, Allbirds focuses on using premium natural materials for their products.​ As a CleanPowerSF SuperGreen customer, Allbirds will source 100% renewable electricity—generated primarily from California-based wind and solar projects—for its SF-based headquarters in the historic Jackson Square neighborhood.
